Understanding Dementia is a one-of-a-kind activity book. It takes a modern approach to teaching children the basics of the disease, while also arming them with the tools they need to recognize and share their emotions.
Through a series of activities – journaling, drawing, playing games, and more – your child will walk away from this book with a deeper understanding of what their loved one is going through. They’ll learn helpful tips about what to expect and how to better communicate with their loved one – all to help maintain and cherish the relationship they had before the disease progressed.
This book is made up of 12 Learn-and-Earn chapters. Each simplifies and explains a different aspect of dementia – from the early stage to the final stage – and each offers an interactive component that allows your child to learn by doing. As they complete each chapter, they will earn a badge, giving them an added sense of achievement.
With a master's degree in social work, her certificate in grief recovery counseling, and licenses in clinical social work and independent mental health, Mindy now owns a private practice that focuses on geriatric mental health. Her purpose and mission is to help elders age with dignity and grace.
Understanding Dementia is very personal to Mindy. Two of Mindy's grandparents had dementia and she watched as her entire family navigated the ups and downs of the disease. This first-hand experience fueled her desire to help others.
Through these books she hope to relieve any anger and resentments people may have and preserve the love and relationships between families and their loved one.
